How The Red was founded

Born in the Stands

In 2018, a group of passionate Phnom Penh Crown supporters came together with one vision — to unite every fan under one banner. What started as a small group of friends in the terraces of Phnom Penh Stadium became the official fan base of the club.

We chose the name The Red to honour the lion spirit of Crown FC and the colour that defines us on every matchday. From coordinated chants to tifo displays, we exist to push our team forward and make Phnom Penh Stadium the hardest place to play in Cambodia.

Today, The Red is the heartbeat of Crown matchdays — a family of supporters who travel home and away, stand through every minute, and live by one belief: Forever The Red.

  1. 2001

    Smart United is born

    Phnom Penh Crown FC began as Smart United, entering the Cambodian League with ambition to build a winning club in the capital.

  2. 2002

    First league crown

    Smart United win their first Cambodian League title, laying the foundation for decades of success.

  3. 2007

    Phnom Penh Empire era

    After mergers and evolution, the club becomes Phnom Penh Empire — a name that would soon dominate domestic football.

  4. 2008

    Double winners

    Empire capture the league and Hun Sen Cup in the same season — the club's first major trophy haul.

  5. 2009

    Phnom Penh Crown FC

    The club adopts its current identity as Phnom Penh Crown FC, the name known across Southeast Asia today.

  6. 2010–2015

    Golden era

    Crown win four league titles in six years, establishing themselves as Cambodia's benchmark club with academy talent and AFC experience.

  7. 2018

    The Red is founded

    Supporters officially unite as The Red — the fan base that would become the voice of Crown FC on every matchday.

  8. 2021–2022

    Back on top

    Crown reclaim the Cambodian Premier League with back-to-back titles, adding Super Cup and League Cup honours.
